Monrovia – Fallen Liberian broadcast journalist Dennis Samukai’s remains will be laid to rest on Saturday.
In spite of frantic efforts exerted by media colleagues to save the life of the longtime media practitioner, Samukai died on October 15, at the John F. Kennedy Memorial Center.
Samukai died few days after he was transferred from the S.D. Cooper Hospital, at 12th Street, Sinkor, where he was admitted due to a protracted period of illness. He was reportedly diagnosed with hyperglycemia, an excess of glucose in the bloodstream, often associated with diabetes mellitus.
On Friday, October 26, there will be a period of silent wake-keeping in memory of the deceased journalist, at his Watch Tower Community residence located in Paynesville City, beginning at 8 P.M.
The following day, at 9 A.M., the remains of Samukai will be taken from the Samuel A. Stryker Funeral parlour to the Immanuel Baptist Church in Wood Camp, Paynesville City, for funeral service, and interment follows later at the Nimba United Cemetery in Mount Barclay, outside Monrovia.
Prior to his demise, Samukai worked as reporter and newscaster for several local news outlets including the state broadcaster, LBS; OK FM; the erstwhile Liberia Communications Network (LCN), and the Catholic-run Radio Veritas.
The renowned broadcast journalist also worked at the award-winning Star Radio before it was shut down due to budgetary constraints. Prior to Samukai falling ill and subsequently passing, he last worked for Joy FM.
