Monrovia – Liberia’s most popular student party at the state-run University of Liberia, the Student Unification Party (SUP) says it frowns on what it calls unorthodox precedent of mass gangsterism under the rule of President George M. Weah, insisting that it demands full accountability for all victims of such unorthodox precedent of mass gangsterism.

In a statement obtained by Punch FM/TV online service, SUP vows to resist any form of vicious pursuit by those it referred to as pro-regime renegades who the vanguard party  says want to relapse those cherished values of democracy that remain the basis of the country’s mutual coexistence.

“The party seriously frowns on the latest electoral violence in District #13, Montserrado County,” the SUP statement read, adding, “The bloody clash, which was allegedly engineered by Monrovia City Mayor and executed by a group of misguided thugs and recalcitrant hoodlums from CDC Sabu Unit, led to the inhumane brutalization of supporters of an opposition candidate (Cornelia Kruah-Cooper).”

The SUP averred that it has reliably learned through its Intelligence Bureau that there are some public officials and non-military individuals who have firearms in their possession to continuously and callously harass, intimidate and inflict bodily injuries on peaceful and unarmed civilians and critics of the Weah-led government.

“The rise of illegal firearms in the possession of non-military personnel is a serious threat to Liberia’s fragile peace, stability and reconciliatory drive. It doesn’t only undermine our democracy, but sets the stage for a Police State and Jungle Justice, which could eventually culminate into a Reign of Terror under President George M. Weah. No wonder why armed robbery is increasing daily,” SUP said.

‘Shooting’

“Additionally, SUP vehemently condemns the recent shooting of an AFL personnel and the severe injuries of 5 other persons by a group of EPS agents loyal to President George M. Weah. This is the height at which lawlessness has reached in less than a year of governance under CDC.”

The party intimated that instead of the Weah administration protecting citizens of Liberia, it is killing/brutalizing them, stating, “The party demands immediate answers to these harsh contradictions that have the inclination to further plunder our State into unending chaos and crises.”

SUP threatened a mass protest should government fail to provide tangible reasons for actions of the  Weah-led government, which the party describes as harsh contradictions.

“If no reasonable answers are given for these ruthless actions, the party will rally the Liberian people including students, youths, taxi drivers, pen-pen riders, marketers and slum-dwellers to consistently protest, said SUP.

The party continued: “We will certainly carry out another massive PROTEST very soon to send a clear message that our people are being shot and viciously brutalized by elements of the fifth column who are perceived to be ‘loyalists’ of President George M. Weah. SUP remains overly concerned about the safety, security and survival of the Liberian people, and will do everything possible to avert the dark days of Liberia.”

‘Against Ja’neh’s impeachment’

The Student Unification Party noted that there are early signs of an anarchistic state and a politics of bloodshed expeditiously emerging during the reign of ex-soccer legend George M. Weah, but the SUP was quick to state that in spite of this, it shall remain even more courageous in confronting all forms of anti-democratic and despotic tendencies that tend to regress the gains Liberia has made so far.

In that regard, the SUP declared that it is totally opposed to what it terms the highly political impeachment process of Supreme Court Associate Justice Kabineh Ja’neh, which the party says is directly linked to the hatching of a domineering presidency.

‘Expulsion action’

Meanwhile SUP, with immediate effect, has expelled several of its members and those it called veterans for acts the party says are inconsistent and inimical to the principles, doctrine and philosophy of SUP,

Those expelled include SUP Co-chairman for Party Affairs, Prince Brown; Co-chair for Governmental Affairs, Eddie Gbah; Daniel Sargbe; Hammed Kiazolu; Jacob D. Kollie; and Emmanuel Nagbe.

The rest are Paul Kingsley; Trokon Monghah; Jerome Saydee; Mustapha Dukuly; Calvin Momboe; Eriah Gbah; Eddie Tarawali; and Emmanuel Johnson.

SUP has also indefinitely suspended its militant chairman Seawon S. Lawaiyee, for what a statement released by the party calls demonstrating indiscipline and disloyalty to party duties.

“The Party wants to inform the administration of the University of Liberia and the general public to immediately refrain from doing any form of business with these expelled and suspended individuals in the name of the Party. Transacting any form of business with these deviants would be at your own risk. All militants are to fully adhere to this mandate as well and comply accordingly,” the SUP statement said.

The party has therefore, requested that the affected individuals immediately turn over all SUP’s properties in their possession.
