MONROVIA, Liberia – A vast majority of Liberians both at home and abroad are grief-stricken by the passing of Montserrado County Senator Geraldine Doe-Sheriff, as many of the fallen lawmaker’s compatriots just can’t stop mourning her demise publicly on social media.
Doe-Sheriff reportedly died Saturday in the Ghanaian capital Accra, following a protracted battle against cancer.
Like many others, the proprietor of the media network ONE MEDIA INCORPORATED, owner of Punch FM/TV and online service, renowned Liberian broadcast journalist Patrick Honnah on Sunday wrote on his official Facebook page memorializing the deceased senator, with whom the revered broadcaster had a cordial relationship.
“Small thing, small thing like this, it hurting them” Ayyy, mehn, she would call to encourage me to stand strong during these times,” wrote Mr. Honnah, who recalled, “She personally contributed to Punch FM and when my license was happily suspended by my “own friends.”
He continued: “she would send me a text to say: “be a man, don’t give up, fight for your goal, the destiny killers are strong but fight hard until you achieve your dreams, one day it will be over, they will apologise one day to you”. Ayyy mehn, my battle cry champion mehn, my senator, I thank you for all you did just to see me stand strong!”
Mr. Honnah concluded his eulogy by beseeching God for the Omnipotent Lord to accept Doe-Sheriff in His bosom – “Jehovah El Olam, the ONE who shuts and no man opens, please, please, please accept her soul into YOUR Kingdom!” He wrote.
The standard bearer of the country’s most popular students’ political party, the Student Unification Party (SUP), Martin K.N. Koliie, in total disbelief, also wrote referring to the fallen senator in her nickname Lady Zico.
“Lady Zico is gone and we are saddened. SUP will miss you Vet. Senator Geraldine Doe-Sheriff. You served our Party and Country well.”
For his part, Alfred Denis Tokpa, II in his tribute to the fallen lawmaker, questioned death for taking away the life of Doe-Sheriff.
“When will your plan and continue effort of always breaking our hearts come to an end?” Tokpa wrote.
He continued: When will you stop bringing unimaginable pain and grieve to us concerning our love one?
“What!!!!! Death Oh Death. Death, you have done it again. You have been successful in your continued and unstoppable effort to take away the life of our beloved, pretty, outspoken, and fearless Sen Geraldine Doe Sheriff from us,” he further wrote.
He then concluded, “Finally, your action of always taking away our love ones into the land of perpetual silence is unacceptable.”
Deputy Minister for Administration for Public Works, Joseph P. Todd, who is a member of the ruling-CDC, also wrote: “Your memories are so fresh my dear sister,
rest in internal peace. Senator Geraldine Doe Sheriff.” The fallen senator is a former chairperson of the CDC.
Vocal opposition politician Abraham Darius Dillon, for his part wrote that Doe-Sheriff was sick protractedly, indicating that in accordance with the will of God, the fallen tough-talking senator has gone to rest.
“She suffered a protracted period of illness. She is gone to rest, according to God’s will. My deepest condolences to the bereaved family, the people of Montserrado County and Liberia in general. May her gentle soul rest in peace!!😭 #LadyZico,” Dillon wrote.
