Monrovia – A cargo vessel, the bulk carrier BLISS, has been attacked and robbed by pirates at Liberia’s main commercial seaport facility, Freeport, Punch FM/TV online service has reliably learned.

Liberia’s largest seaport, the Freeport, was artificially created on Bushrod Island near Monrovia in 1948. The facility contains four piers and one main wharf with four berths. The port also has tanker facilities and a fishery pier.

Report released by the International Maritime Organization (IMO) Global Integrated Shipping Information System (GISIS) reveals that BLISS came under attack by armed pirates on 29 July, while the Japanese built huge cargo ship was anchored at the Freeport.

A Punch FM/TV online service request for response sent to the communication manager of the National Port Authority, which manages the affairs of the Freeport, was not immediately responded to.

The armed pirates boarded BLISS at 3:30 AM local time, stole an unspecified number of properties aboard the ship and fled, according to a GISIS report.

The Freeport of Monrovia control tower was contacted, but there was no response, according to the report which indicates that BLISS crew is safe.

Howbeit, the GISIS’ report did not specify details of the armed pirates’ attack, whether BILSS crew members were robbed or not.

Meanwhile, BLISS which was built in 2007 and is currently sailing under the flag of Marshall Islands, arrived at the Freeport’s anchorage since 23 July and is reported to have still been berthed at the port as at 5:30 AM, 30 July.
