Voinjama – A 16-year-old female, Rachael Jaygbeh, has ‘committed suicide’ in Weezeazu Town, Wobomai Chiefdom, Voinjama District, Lofa County.
Our northern Liberia correspondent reports that on last Thursday at noon, a man identified as Zumo Majoe, discovered hanging on a tree in Weezeazu Town, with a piece of cloth tied to her neck, the lifeless body of the teenager, who until her demise was a 5th grader at the Lawalazu Public School in Voinjama District, in that part of the country.
The teenager’s father, Mr. Kpoto Jaygbeh, who appeared sorrow-sickened and shocked over the tragedy, later told PUNCH he would not fathom the actual reason that might have led to his daughter committing suicide, adding that there was nobody he knew her to be indebted to and anyone with whom she had a beef.
Wailing with tears uncontrollably screaming down her cheeks, the mother of Rachel, Esther Korveh, described the death of her daughter as a great loss to the family.
The actual reason leading to little Rachael’s suicidal action remains scanty, but PUNCH gathered from family members and some residents of the area that prior to the incident, the teenager’s parents were engrossed into a heated domestic feud that had reached the point of the pair getting divorced, on the same day she was found dead.
Family sources and residents of Weezeazu Town told PUNCH that the unresolved family quarrel between her father and mother might have left Rachel totally embarrassed and frustrated, to have resorted to taking her own life.
As it has always been the case, following the multiple occurrences of such tragedy in Lofa recently, a 15-man jury set up on Friday, 7 September 2018, to examine the remains of the 16-year-old, reported that she died as a result of hanging and that there was no foul play in her death.
Rachael’s corpse was then later on the same day turned over by authorities of the joint security in Lofa, to members of her family for burial.
