Monrovia – PUNCH online service has reliably gathered that the daughter of the political leader of the opposition All Liberian Party (ALP), Benoni Urey, Telia, who is contesting for the vacant Montserrado County District #15 seat in the House of Representatives, has pulled down from her timeline on Facebook several posts demeaning of President George Weah and his supporters, mostly those from his party, the Congress for Democratic Change (CDC).
Outside of party primary, Telia was “Vetted” Wednesday, by four collaborating parties, including her father’s ALP, the former ruling Unity Party (UP), Liberty Party (LP), and the Alternative National Congress (ANC), as their candidate for the ensuing 2 July by-election for the Montserrado County District #15 Representative seat which was made vacant due to the tragic death of former Rep Adolph Lawrence, who died in a car crash off the Robertfield Highway recently.
Until the announcement of her bid for the House of Representatives and her subsequent endorsement by the collaborating political parties, Telia, a fierce critic of President Weah, was very vocal against the Liberian leader’s leadership style and most of his administration’s policies.
She frequently made her dissent for Weah’s leadership style known by her social media posts, especially via Facebook, where she would most times sarcastically attack the president over what she infers as his poor grammatical constructions and low intellectual acumen.
President Weah’s supporters, many of who are from his political party, the CDC, are not spared, as Telia in her social media onslaught usually condemns the president’s followers as bunch of illiterates, who need to go to school.
However, Telia now seems to have realized that should she continue her attacks against Weah and his supporters, who are reportedly in huge number in Montserrado County, her chances to win the 2 July Representative by-election in District #15 could be slim, and so, she has not only tuned down her rhetoric against the president and his supporters, but has also wiped clean her official Facebook page of all denigrating posts that she previously had flooding her timeline.
Howbeit, several supporters of President Weah and the CDC, who Telia often refers to as “tiny, tiny CDCians”, have vowed to vote against the daughter of the Liberian billionaire businessman turned politician, as a payback for her insults against the president and them, PUNCH online service has learned.
