Monrovia – Barely two days after the celebration of the first anniversary of the existence of the Economic Freedom Fighters of Liberia (EFFL) in Kakata, Margibi County, where the Commander-In-Chief of the group, Emmanuel Gonquoi was very vocal against the George-Weah led government and those he described as “conservative political figures”, the EFFL CIC’s home has been visited by strange men.
On Monday afternoon, two men, who may have been accompanied by several others, made their way into the fence enclosing the Congo Town residence of the EFFL Commander-In-Chief, demanding private security guards assigned there about the whereabouts of Gonquoi and EFFL’s National Security-General, Ernest Moibah, Jr., PUNCH FM/TV online service has reliably gathered.
Gonquoi confirmed to PUNCH FM/TV online service via a telephone interview late Monday evening that indeed the privacy of his home was evaded by men who he and members of his family do not know nor invite, but were posing as members of the vanguard students’ party, the Students Unification Party (SUP) of the state-run University of Liberia.
CIC Gonquoi, who could not state the identity of the men and say exactly which group they belong, or who might have sent them, believes the strange men are not from SUP, but were only posing as members of SUP in disguise for the purpose of harming him.
The vocal youthful politician said he is not intimidated by the visit paid to his home by these strange men, but disclosed that as a result of the unexpected visitation, his wife was panic-stricken at the moment.
”They entered the fence and began asking the securities, “how many guns do you have here?” Said Gonquoi, who added that when his security guards asked the strange men to leave because the place was a private residence and there were no guns in the home of the Gonquoi’s, the men angrily left, but not without issuing threats that they would return with 12 men well armed with guns.
“We will come back with 12 men with guns, and let’s see if you people will be able to resist us,” CIC Gonquoi quoted the men as saying.
He disclosed that he was not home at the time the strange men stormed his residence, but he was later alerted by his private security guards, who narrated the ordeal to him.
Meanwhile, CIC Gonquoi has reported the matter to the Liberia National Police, and he’s calling on the government to intervene promptly, deeming the threat issued by the men as being very serious, judging from the fact that there have been many ‘secret killings’ and unsolved homicides in the country in recent times.
