Monrovia – There are indications that Montserrado County District #10 Representative, Yekeh Kolubah may be made to answer to the law regarding statements attributed to him that are deemed seditious, according to ruling party lawmaker, Moses Acarous Gray of Montserrado County District #8.
Appearing Thursday on the Truth Breakfast Show aired on Truth 96.1 FM, Gray insinuated that Yekeh will be picked up by the court, and will be made to face the full weight of the law, and will be placed behind bars for statements he recently made against President George Manneh Weah.
He made specific reference to what he said was a remark made by the Montserrado District #10 lawmaker referring to President Weah, who Gray said Yekeh called a squatter that will leave the Liberian presidency within three months’ time.
Bragging of speaking from a legislative standpoint, Gray inferred that Rep Yekeh is a deviant, whom he said, under the doctrine of the rules of the House of Representatives, would not be shielded, adding that based on arguments raised by another lawmaker of Montserrado County, Thomas Fallah, the issues will be debated in Plenary and the Montserrado County District #10 lawmaker will be picked up and incarcerated.
Rep Fallah of Montserrado County District #5 recently called on Rep Yekeh to retract threatening comments he allegedly directed at President Weah at a political rally intended for him (Yekeh) to join four collaborating opposition political parties at the Congo Town headquarters of the former ruling Unity Party on Sunday, 14 April.
He vowed to lobby his other colleagues at the House of Representatives to ensure the expulsion of Rep Yekeh from the Legislature if he doesn’t retract what Rep Fallah calls “insults” against the presidency.
Both Fallah and Gray are the proponents of the impeachment bill that recently led to former Associate Justice Kabineh Ja’neh’s removal from the full bench of the Supreme Court of Liberia.
“Yekeh will be called and subjected to probe. Any attempt for him not to abide, he will be suspended and expelled from the Legislature. He will be considered a former representative in the next couple of days in keeping with Rule 43 of the House of Representatives,” Rep Fallah stressed.
For his part, Rep Gray told the Truth Breakfast Show that besides a summon from Montserrado county Attorney Cllr. Edwin Kla Martin which the District #10 lawmaker has since turned down, although the police have not been instructed to move on him nor has a writ from the court been issued him, Rep Yekeh is not above the law, stating that “once a writ is issued, I can assure you, nobody will stand in [the] way – Honorable Kolubah will be picked up, he will surrender, he will face the full weight of the law of the Republic of Liberia.”
“Those who [are] saying all hail Yekeh, when he goes to the court, he must go to the prison cell, his bed is prepared there – let him go there. I am telling you that Honorable Yekeh will be picked up. Let me repeat, let me repeat, let me tell you this, I am speaking from a legislative stand point; Honorable Fallah has raised an issue, and we will debate the issue on the floor. I am telling you from a legislative stand point, we have rules. Under the doctrine of our rules, we will not consider any deviant,” Gray said.
Meanwhile, Rep Yekeh has said if he has done any wrong, the due process of the legal framework should be followed in line with the Constitution of Liberia to have him apprehended, vowing that he would not abide by anything outside of the constitution.
In a communication erroneously dated June 15, 2019, Montserrado County Attorney Cllr. Martin invited Rep Yekeh to appear before him on Tuesday, April 16, 2019, at 12:30 p.m. to face an inquest over statements attributed to him, but the lawmaker has since snubbed the County Attorney’s summon.
“If that County Attorney is under the influence of drugs, I am an elected representative of my people not appointed as the County Attorney; therefore, I cannot submit myself to him,” Rep Yekeh reportedly said.
