Monrovia – In a run-up to the ensuing 8 July senatorial by-election, an opinion poll conducted live on air Thursday by state radio, by a margin of more than 20 votes, puts ruling party (CDC) candidate, Paulita C.C. Wie ahead of Abraham Darius Dillon (ADD), the candidate of four opposition political parties, including LP, UP, ALP, and ANC.

Callers to Liberia Broadcasting System’s popular talk radio presentation which begins by late afternoon and ends during the early evening hours, The Bumper Show, ahead of five other candidates, voted the pair in slots one and two respectively, with Ms. Wie receiving a total of 42 votes against Mr. Dillon’s 20.

Citizens of Montserrado County are poised to go to the polls on 8 July to elect one of seven candidates standing for senator, to replace fallen Montserrado County Senator Geraldine Doe-Sheriff, who died of cancel in February, at the Korle-Bu Teaching hospital in Accra, Ghana.

A sitting member of the House of Representatives, Samuel Enders, who is contesting the 8 July by-election, got just a vote, while like him, former presidential candidate, MacDella Cooper, also vying for the Senate seat made vacant by the death of the late Doe-Sherieff, got a single vote.

Massa Massaquoi, an independent candidate, got 5 votes; another independent candidate, Dr.  Kimmie Weeks, got 4 votes, and Mohammed Dukuly, another independent candidate, got no vote.

Political pundits and observers believe the 8 July senatorial by-election has been narrowed down to a two-horse race, between Wie, who besides having the support of the ruling party, has the backing of President George Weah, and Dillon, who relies on his years of advocacy and experience as a vocal politician, couple with support from the UP, ANC, ALP, and LP, which he serves as vice chairman for political affairs.
