Monrovia – The country’s most popular student political party, the Student Unification Party of the government-run University of Liberia has announced its endorsement of the planned June 7th mass protest action.

Organizers of the protest have said they intend to on 7 June begin series of protest actions dubbed “Save The State,” in demand of good governance from President George Weah’s administration

In a statement issued Thursday, SUP said it has overwhelmingly endorsed the June 7th protest, which is being organized by a group of Liberians under the banner Council of Patriots (CoP).

SUP says the June 7th protest is a prelude to its campaign launched in March, calling on President Weah to step down because according to the student political party, the Liberian leader has proven unfit to lead in all dimensions.

“The attributes of this ex-Soccer Star are too far from a patriotic leader. His appetite for illicit wealth, fame and power has transcended above the ultimate interest of the common people – The Masses,” SUP said, lamenting that the “harsh prevailing realities have shown that our Republic has fallen in the hands of hardcore looters, mere opportunists, incompetent bigots, and economic mafias.”

SUP is drawing the attention of Liberians to what it terms as the country fast falling into the abyss of gloom and doom.

The student party averred that nothing convinces it that the country and its people are making progress, stating that “the CDC-led government is more of a Coalition of Desperate Crooks who have no real vision – no concrete agenda – and no genuine strategy to liberate Liberia and Liberians from socio-economic and political nightmare.”

“Therefore, SUP as the largest student-based political and ideological movement in Liberia and Africa, will vehemently mobilize over 50,000 students and youth for June 7 Protest,” SUP vowed.

“We will PROTEST to demand REAL CHANGE. Enough is enough – The people will be compelled to redefine their course on June 7 and move into history.”

The Student Unification Party noted that no amount of threats or intimidation intended to dilute or thwart their collective resolve to stand in defense of the sovereignty and survival of Liberia which the party referred to as a “dying Republic”, can prevent its members.

June 7 is non-negotiable and SUP shall be at the full front of this popular people’s revolution. With national urgency, we must and we will SAVE THE STATE on June 7,” the SUP statement read.
