Monrovia – Barely 24-hours following warnings from four collaborating political parties; UP, ANC, LP, and ALP, for President George Weah to among others things put to an end what the parties call mudslinging from members of his administration against other Liberians, the president has issued an Executive Memorandum directing officials serving in the Executive Branch to refrain from making unauthorized comments on public policy matters.
The parties at a joint press conference on Wednesday, cautioned President Weah to hold his officials accountable.
Well, the president in no time, seems to have started doing just that, ordering all cabinet ministers, their deputies and assistants, as well as heads of agencies and commissions, and their deputies to henceforth refrain from making public comments on policy issues of national concern on both conventional and social media without first seeking authorization from the appropriate authorities.
An Executive Mansion statement says President Weah’s Executive Memorandum, issued Wednesday, May 8, 2019 through the Director General of the Cabinet, Jordan Solunteh, also instructs all government ministries and agencies to direct their communications on public policy matters to Information Minister Lenn Eugene Nagbe or his designee.
The Memorandum further indicates that there would be grave consequences for any member of the Executive Branch of Government found in violation of the directive, according to the Executive Mansion statement.
“The President therefore cautions all members of the Executive Branch to take heed and govern themselves accordingly,” the statement read.
