Monrovia – The President Pro-Tempore of the Liberian Senate, Grand Kru County Senator Albert Chie has disclosed that President Weah has committed to several concerns raised by senators in a closed-door meeting held with the Liberian leader Tuesday, in the spirit of the Liberian constitution which espouses coordination between the country’s three-branch governance system.

At the meeting which was premised on the cardinal point of exchanging ideas on governance issues in the country, Pro-Tempt Chie told reporters that the senators raised several issues of national concern including justice and security; the country’s economic situation; the status of reports regarding the LRD16 billion saga investigation and the US$25 million intended to mop up excess liquidity of Liberian dollars in the fast-dwindling Liberian economy; the planned June 7th ‘peaceful’ protest, and the president’s withdrawal of the tenure bill earlier submitted to stripe several integrity institutions in the country of certain authority.

He added that the senators also expressed concern over the assessment of the performances of current officials serving in the Executive Branch of President Weah’s administration; the United Nations concern recently raised in a communication to the Weah-led government calling for the proper management of UN funds by the Government of Liberia (GoL); a proposed national conference; and proper information dissemination from the GoL to the people of Liberia.

The Senate Pro-Tempt further informed reporters that President Weah applauded the senators for the frank exchanges at the meeting which was characterized by cordiality and mutual respect between the lawmakers and the president, who was accompanied by his Vice President, Chief Dr. Jewel Howard Taylor, who is also President of the Senate.

President Weah committed himself to the resolution of the issues raised by the senators, as well as other issues affecting citizens of Liberia, according to Senate Pro-Tempt Chie.

Under the watch of Weah as president, Liberia’s economy is fast plummeting, with sky-rocketing inflation and unbearable economic pinch being experienced by several Liberians.

The country is noisy, with lawlessness on the increase, the president himself being accused of breaching the Constitution on a couple of times, while allegations of corruption against the regime is rife.

A planned ‘peaceful’ protest by some citizens against Weah and his administration, is heightening tension in an already tensed country.

Supporters of the president and the government, including the ruling party and organizers of the planned protest are at each other’s throats over the timeliness and relevance of the protest.

But the protesters are adamant in spite of recent order from the Ministry of Justice that without legal documents to prove the legitimacy of the group organizing the protest, government would not grant a permit for such purpose.
