PUNCHFM/TV Maiden Presidential Polls result conducted yesterday, January 9, 2023 in Montserrado County District #10 at the Sinkor Old Road Market had incumbent president George Manneh Weah and former Vice President Joseph Nyumah tied at 17-17, with the undecided voters accounting for the highest tally – 21.

For George Weah, out of the 17 respondents that said they would vote for him in the October 2023 presidential elections, 12 youths, 3 females, 1 first time voter and one male formed that number.

As for former Vice President and Unity Party Standard Bearer Joseph Nyuma Boakai, out of the 17 respondents that vowed to vote for him in the October 2023 presidential elections, 11 youths, 5 females, 1 first time voter and 1 male formed that number.

Collaborating Political Parties (CPP) Standard Bearer Alexander B. Cummings got 1 vote from a youth, while the Jeremiah Koung and his Movement for Democracy and Reconciliation received one vote from a female respondent.

Gauging from the tally, it is safe to conclude that Montserrado County could be hotly contested in the upcoming elections, and that the ruling establishment could be forced to have a good run for their money if they don’t recalibrate strategies to change the political dynamics that forced them to cede to the opposition camp during the past senatorial by-elections.

The high number of undecided voters in the PUNCH maiden presidential poll might be an indication of voters’ apathy due to postponement of the voters’’ registration process, the stringent economic situations facing the citizenry, as well as the widening split within the opposition camp.

“I will vote for anyone who will pay my Access Bank loan. I don’t care who that candidate is. Just pay my loan and I will vote,” one of the female respondents retorted. When asked for whom she would vote, she responded cryptically, “I don’t know”.

The polls continue today in Districts 17 and 6, respectively in the Brewerville and ELWA belts where the two PUNCH teams will engage 150 respondents from each district, randomly sampling their views on their presidential pick for the October 2023 elections. The polls will sample views from males, females, the elderly, marketers and professional citizens.
