Monrovia, Liberia (Saturday, October 29, 2022): The Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) and the United Nations (UN) have jointly concluded a day long inter-party rotational dialogue held over the weekend at the Unity Party Headquarters, in Monrovia.
The gathering was meant to review the 2017 Farmington Declaration, to make adjustments where possible and to incorporate enforcement mechanisms ahead of the ensuing 2023 Presidential and Legislative elections.
The ECOWAS-UN inter-party-political dialogue is to foster positive working relationship and promote peaceful coexistence among political parties as part of efforts to engender collective problem-solving amongst the political parties and individual candidates.
The international interlocutors urged political party leaders to promote frequent interactions on issues of mutual interest, facilitate processes that will minimize tension, as well as build trust for the conduct of a violence-free elections in 2023.
At the same time, opposition Unity Party pledged its commitment to work with all stakeholders and partners as to promote peace and unity among Liberians.
Meanwhile, the ruling Coalition for Democratic Change (CDC) declined to attend the dialogue after initially committing itself to form part of the rotational meeting.
