VP Howard-Taylor donates to mosque in western Liberia

Monrovia – Liberia’s Vice President Chief Jewel Howard-Taylor on Friday April 19, 2019, joined the Muslim Community in Liberia to dedicate a Grand Mosque in Klay Town, Bomi County.

The mosque is dedicated to unity among all faiths, as well as Liberians in general.

In remarks, Vice President Howard-Taylor said the events at the Mosque were a manifestation of government’s commitment that all religious institutions have a part to play in the national development.

The Vice President thanked Muslims for their continuous prayers to the nation and urged all Liberians not to relent in offering prayers for tolerance, patience, and honesty that would show regards and respect for others in what they do.According to a release from the office of Vice President, VP Howard-Taylor also urged the Muslim Community to pray for reconciliation and peace, without which she said nothing can be achieved.

She thanked members of the Muslim Community and all residents of Klay Town for their prayers   and urged them to remain committed to the service of God, saying, “As we open this mosque today, I urge all of us to remain committed to the service of God and work hard towards the promotion of peace and development in our country.”

Vice President Howard-Taylor assured that the George Weah-led government will continue to work towards strengthening religious tolerance and peaceful co-existence in the country while encouraging every Liberian to do same.

“Without the will to embrace the other, there will be no truth between people, and without truth between people there will be no peace,” Veep Howard-Taylor stressed.

She recalled her long standing engagement with the Muslim Community in Liberia while encouraging them to always include her in various development activities of the community aimed at improving the lives of all Liberians.

VP Howard-Taylor then donated a 5 KVA generator and one hundred fifty thousand Liberian dollars to the leadership of the Klay Town Grand Mosque as her initial contribution to the enhancement of religious activities at the Islamic worship center.

She also promised to present one million Liberian dollars to the Klay Women Development Association which is intended to start up a micro-loan program in the district.

During the occasion, a number of Muslim clerics offered prayers for the nation including the Chief Imam of Liberia, Sheik Ali Krayee.

Chief Imam Krayee thanked President Weah and Vice President Howard-Taylor for what he called the pair creating the enabling environment for peaceful co-existence between Muslims and non-Muslims in the country.

Chief Imam Krayee particularly praised Vice President Howard-Taylor for always supporting development activities in the Muslim Community, noting that the Liberian Vice President was very instrumental in financing the recent publication of some major Islamic books in the country.

Imam Krayee said he wrote the book not only to promote Islam in the country but to further strengthen the campaign to erase the negative perceptions about the Islam.

Chief Imam Krayee also joined the Vice President to urge all Muslims in the country to promote the spirit of reconciliation among all citizens and discourage vices that have the potential of plunging the country into violence.

The Muslim cleric assured government of their full support towards the national development agenda of the country.

Also gracing the dedication of the Islamic worship house were Bomi County Senator Sando Johnson, Representative Manneh Johnson as well as several local government officials of Klay District.
